We cut the roots back, descale the pipe walls, jet everything clear, and run the camera through to confirm the line is open and to identify whether the root entry point needs a permanent repair. That last step is what stops the same drain failing again in four months.
What the Job Involves
Root cutting isn't jetting. Jetting shifts loose material. Roots that have grown into the pipe need a mechanical cutter first, otherwise the jet compresses them downstream and they reblock a metre further along.
Here's the sequence:
- A flexible rotary cutter is fed to the root mass and breaks it up mechanically
- High-pressure water jetting, operated by our WJA-trained engineers, flushes the cut material clear. On a standard 100mm domestic lateral we typically run 1,500 to 2,500 psi; heavily root-matted pipes or larger-diameter runs may need higher pressure, agreed on site
- Descaling pads or a chain flail remove scale and grease that's accumulated around the root entry point
- A CCTV camera runs the full length of the drain to check clearance and locate any cracked or offset joints the roots used to get in

When You're Likely to Need It

Where We See It Most in Solihull
